RAWALPINDI:

Security forces killed 16 terrorists who were trying to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the general area of Ghulam Khan Kallay in the North Waziristan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a news release on Sunday.

It said that the Pakistani soldiers engaged the intruding terrorists effectively, as they thwarted their infiltration attempt. It added that the security forces were determined and remained committed to securing the country’s borders and eliminating the menace of terrorism.

“On night 22/23 March, movement of a group of khwarij, trying to infiltrate through Pakistan-Afghanistan border, was picked up by the security forces in general area Ghulam Khan Kallay, North Waziristan District,” said the ISPR news release.

“Own troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate. After an intense fire exchange, all sixteen Khwarij were sent to hell,” it added, referring to the term used for the terrorists belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The ISPR, the media wing of the military stated that Pakistan had consistently been asking the Interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border.

“The interim Afghan Government is expected to fulfil its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by Khwarij for perpetuating acts of terrorism against Pakistan. The security forces of Pakistan are determined and remain committed to securing its borders and eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country.”

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in their separate statements, appreciated the security forces for stopping the infiltration bid at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and killing 16 terrorists in a timely operation.

Zardari said that the brave armed forces of Pakistan were determined to defend the borders of the country around the clock. “The whole nation stood with the security forces in the war against terrorism and the operations against terrorists will continue till the complete eradication of this menace.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz said that terrorists would not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious designs. He added he and the whole Pakistani nation stood with the brave armed forces which were defending the country with unwavering determination.
