NEW DELHI: Congress on Sunday claimed that the Modi government’s Forest Conservation Amendment Act “undoed” the progress made in the historic Forest Rights Act of 2006, and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of diluting tribal rights. I accused him of being there.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posed a question to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of a rally in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
“Why are the people of Jamshedpur still suffering from poor connectivity? Why is the Adivasi CM of Jharkhand in jail, but why 2A and the black money they amassed in large quantities are roaming free? Why is the Adityapur Industrial Area still waiting for environmental clearance? Why has the Chief Minister denied the religious identity of Adivasis and refused to approve the Sarna Code?” Ramesh said.
Elaborating on the “details of Jumla”, he said Jamshedpur, despite being an industrial hub, has poor transport connectivity.
He said there was an insufficient number of trains connecting major cities such as Bhagalpur, Bengaluru and Delhi.
The city had a functioning airport till 2016, but despite joining the UDAN scheme in 2018, plans for a new airport could not be realized, Ramesh said.
He said that in January 2019, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Jharkhand government and the Airports Authority of India to construct Darbhumgarh airport by December 2022.
“This was supposed to be a huge boost for the industrial sector, from big players like Tata to the MSME sector of Adityapur. As the December 2022 deadline approaches, the BJP’s own MPs are We were forced to take up the issue. On February 27, the Union Civil Aviation Minister responded and confirmed that the project had been abandoned,” Ramesh said.
He said that after much difficulty, it appears that the environmental protection permit has been granted.
Ramesh asked why the Modi government had ignored such important infrastructure in Jharkhand.
“What happened to ‘Sabka Saas Sabka Vikas’?” he said.
“While the outgoing chief minister’s two close friends escaped the ED and CBI safely despite their black money-filled schemes, the Adivasi chief minister of Jharkhand was shamefully jailed. This is not surprising given how they were trying to undermine Adivasi identity. Adivasi rights are being diluted,” Ramesh said.
Last year, the Modi government passed the Forest Conservation Amendment Act, revoking progress made in the historic Forest Rights Act of 2006 and abolishing provisions regarding local community consent and other legal requirements for deforestation in large areas. he said.
“The intention, of course, is to hand over access to the Prime Minister’s closest confidants. Will the Prime Minister stop paying lip service to the slogans of Jal Jangar Zameen and meaningfully commit to the welfare of the Adivasi?” the Congress leadership said. said the person.
“Can you shed some light on why the ED and CBI have not investigated his close friend’s tempo yet?” Ramesh said.
He further said that more than half of Adityapur Industrial Area, an important industrial hub of Jamshedpur, has remained in regulatory limbo since 2015.
“This Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is home to 1,200 units including 11 large scale industries, 64 small scale industries and 166 small scale industries. In 2015, Jharkhand State Industries Department said 276 It is a special economic zone (SEZ) of 54 acres in the Adityapur industrial area,” Ramesh said.
However, he claimed that the Modi government’s delays in granting forest and environmental clearances are hampering development.
“While this project has stalled, Modi Sarkar in 2019 approved a Rs 14,000-crore special economic zone project for Adani Power in Godda. Why did Adityapur industrial zone wait for nearly a decade? Was the Adani project pushed forward immediately? Was it during this deal that we saw the large amount of black money that the outgoing Prime Minister told us about?” Ramesh said.
He said tribal communities in Jharkhand, followers of the Sarna faith, have been seeking official recognition of their distinct religious identity in India for many years.
“However, the recent decision to remove the ‘other’ option from the religion section of the census poses a dilemma for Sarna followers: leave the field blank or align with a particular religion? We are faced with a choice,” Ramesh said.
In November 2020, the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly passed a resolution supporting this demand, he pointed out.
“Despite former Prime Minister Raghubar Das of the Bharatiya Janata Party pledging to enact the Sarna Code by 2021 and Home Minister Amit Shah making a similar promise in 2019, President Modi Sarkar has not done anything. No progress has been made. Will PM Modi address this issue when he visits Jharkhand?”And clarify what his stand is on the enactment of the Sarna Code.” Was the promise made by Raghubar Das and Amit Shah just a jumla? ” Ramesh said, asking the Prime Minister to break his “silence” on these issues.
