Lok Sabha Election 2024 Live Updates: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the final voter turnout data for the first two terms of the seven-term Lok Sabha elections, showing a turnout of over 66 per cent in both terms. In the first stage on April 19, 66.14% of electors exercised their right to vote, while in the second stage on April 26, the turnout was 66.71%.
Two phases of voting have already been completed, and political parties are stepping up voting activities in the remaining constituencies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a huge rally in Pune, Maharashtra, in support of Mahayuti candidates from Pune, Baramati, Surur and Maval. Additionally, Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Smriti Ilan submitted nominations from sitting MPs from Lucknow and Amethi, respectively.
According to the ECI, the voting turnout in the second phase, which was held in 88 assembly constituencies across 13 states and union territories, was around 63.50 per cent. Voting in the first phase was held on April 19 in 102 seats in 21 states and union territories. Out of the total 543 constituencies in Lok Sabha, 102 went to polls on April 19 and 88 on April 26. Further voting is scheduled for May 7th, 13th, 20th, 25th, and June 1st, with voting counting and results due to be announced on June 4th.
All eyes are on two major political alliances: the ruling NDA, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party, and the opposition India Bloc, led by the Congress.
