The MLB All-Star break is fast approaching, which means it’s time for MLB’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby. The annual power show kicks off at 8pm ET on Monday, July 15th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto have all opted out, but there is still plenty of talent in this year’s group.

Alec Bohm, 3B, Phillies – 11 home runs
Adolis Garcia, outfielder, Rangers – 17 home runs

What are the new rules for the 2024 Home Run Derby?
In some ways, this is the same Home Run Derby that fans have grown accustomed to in recent years, but there are some notable changes aimed at providing a more satisfying and enjoyable viewing experience.
- This year’s tournament will see all eight hitters compete against each other, rather than a bracket-style tournament. The top four advance to the semi-finals, from which the familiar “knockout” tournament begins, with the highest first-round scorer seeded number one, and so on.
- In the event of a tie between two competitors in the first round, advancement to the second round and seeding for the second round will be determined by the longest distance home run hit in the first round.
- For the first time, there will be a limit on the number of balls a competitor can throw in each round. The first round and semi-finals will end in three minutes or 40 balls (with one timeout allowed). The final will end in two minutes or 27 balls (with one timeout allowed).
- At the end of all rounds, contestants are awarded three bonus outs instead of the previous year’s 30. If a contestant hits a 425-foot home run, they are awarded a fourth bonus out.
- In the semi-finals and finals, ties will be broken with a 60-second swing-off. Any subsequent ties will be broken with a three-swing “swing-off.”
