A new report says more and more people are looking for an escape from the digital chaos of everyday life as the search for the perfect summer vacation grows.
Forget checking out hot, crowded, trendy cities on your next summer trip and think about peace and quiet relaxation instead.
“Wellness travel will be mainstream in 2024. As the hustle and bustle of everyday life takes its toll on daily life, travelers are seeking digital detox and solace in serene landscapes and rejuvenating experiences.” says Pinterest’s Summer 2024 Travel Report.
“Say goodbye to crowded cities and hello to secluded places that promise tranquility and self-discovery.”
‘Quiet living travel’ is this year’s hottest trend as people seek a ‘quieter, more peaceful lifestyle’, according to a new report.
This yearning for simplicity extends to travel, with searches for ‘quiet places’ and ‘calm places’ increasing by 50% and 42%, respectively, since last year,” Pinterest search data shows.
According to a travel report, interest in “Quiet Life” has increased by more than 530% this year compared to 2023, as users seek a digital detox filled with natural destinations.
“Solo travel” was at the top of the travel trends, and many people who were interested in a “quiet life” wanted to try it themselves.
“Solo travel has emerged as a liberating option, giving individuals the freedom to shape their itinerary, pace and priorities without compromise.
“Whether you’re soaking in the tranquility of a secluded beach or strolling through a peaceful rural landscape, these experiences contribute to self-care and overall wellness.”
In addition to searching for “quiet living travel,” Pinterest users also searched for “travel diary,” “glamping aesthetic,” and “wellness retreat.”
Future ‘quiet life journey’ itineraries may include forest walks, island life, village atmosphere, cabins in the woods, national parks, countryside and more.
Some of the best locations to achieve a much-needed digital reset include Okinawa City, Japan, and the British countryside.
Other travel ideas with high search traffic on Pinterest include “adventure travel” and “mysterious places.”
Thrill-seeking adventurers were interested in luxury safari accommodation, mountaineering, scuba diving, and caving.
“This is evidence of a desire for uplift, a reconnection with nature, and a break from the everyday, a collective yearning for experiences that provide an adrenaline rush, immersion in nature, and uplifting spirits.
“Achieving goals in an adventurous environment fosters a sense of accomplishment and authority,” the report states.
Meanwhile, haunted, lost, and abandoned cities and places have been a top trend for wonder seekers.
“Stepping deep into ancient cities or discovering forgotten realms is a daring journey that pushes boundaries and uncovers profound truths about ourselves and the world.”
According to the travel report, ‘London lifestyle’, ‘South African food’ and ‘Party in Santorini’ top trending destinations and interests.
Travel experts recently revealed that the majority of Americans are planning a road trip starting this summer’s Memorial Day weekend.
An anonymous survey from The Vacationer asked more than 1,000 American adults whether and how they plan to travel this summer. Almost 82% of Americans said they plan to travel this summer. Over the course of the season, more than 212 million people are planning to travel.
75% of Americans plan to take at least one road trip this summer, and most will be within 100 miles of home.
