Kamala Harris was born to a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, both immigrants, and her maternal grandfather, PV Gopalan, a village native and former diplomat.
During the 2020 US Presidential elections, residents in many parts of villages in Tiruvarur district put up posters praying for Kamala Harris’ success. Residents offered special prayers for success in the 2020 elections, when Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris as his running mate. The villages also celebrated Harris’ victory in the last elections.
Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he would decline to run for re-election as President of the United States.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus my efforts on the duties of my presidency for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote in a post on X.
Biden said appointing Harris as vice president was the best decision he could make.
“My first decision as the party’s nominee in 2020 was to select Kamala Harris as my vice president, and it was the best decision I ever made,” he said.
In the same post, Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.
“Today I want to fully endorse and support Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Fellow Democrats, now is the time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s do it together,” he wrote.
Responding to Biden’s post, Kamala Harris thanked Joe Biden for his leadership and voiced her support.
“On behalf of the American people, I thank President Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and his decades of service to our country. I am honored to have the President’s endorsement. My intention is to seek and win this nomination, and I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party, unite the country, and defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025,” Kamala Harris posted on X.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024.
