At least one gunman opened fire at a Birmingham, Alabama, nightclub during a birthday party on Saturday night, killing four people and wounding several others, police said.
Birmingham police spokesman Truman Fitzgerald said in a video statement that police responded to the scene around 11:08 p.m. after receiving a report of people being shot on North 27th Street.
Fitzgerald said one man was shot to death on the sidewalk outside the nightclub, two women were found dead inside and one man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The other 10 people who were shot are being treated at UAB Hospital, police said. Some were transported there by the Birmingham Fire Department, while others arrived by private vehicle.
“At least one suspect drove by in a vehicle and fired shots into the nightclub from the street,” police said in a statement.
Police said there was some sort of altercation at the club, but detectives are investigating whether that was related to the shooting.
No arrests have been made and police have appealed for the public to come forward with any information.
Birmingham police on Sunday identified the dead as Lelandus Anderson, 24, Stevie McGehee, 39, Markeisha Gettings, 42, and Angela Weatherspoon, 56.
McGehee was found dead outside the store, Gettings and Weatherspoon were killed inside, and Anderson was pronounced dead at hospital, police said.
Federal law enforcement agencies are also assisting Birmingham police in the investigation, police said.
