A shooting occurred overnight at a home in northern Kentucky, leaving four people dead and three taken to the hospital. The suspect later attempted suicide in his car, bringing the total number of deaths from the incident to five. Police identified the suspect as Chase Garvey (21) of Florence. According to Florence Police, officers responded to a home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Kentucky at 2:51 a.m. Saturday morning after receiving several calls of a shooter in the home. Gunfire was still heard when they arrived on scene. Once inside, they found seven people with gunshot wounds, four of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the home of suspect Melissa Parret (44) was currently hosting a birthday party for her 21-year-old son. Parret was identified as one of the victims killed in the shooting. The other victims were: Shane Miller, 20, of Florence, Kentucky; Hayden Rybicki, 20, of Ellesmere, Kentucky; and Delaney Airey, 19, of Burlington, Kentucky. The other three victims were transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. They are currently listed as critical but stable. According to police, Garvey had fled the scene in a vehicle when officers arrived. Officers quickly located the fleeing suspect near Farmview Drive and U.S. 42 and attempted to stop him, resulting in a pursuit. The pursuit ended on Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike when the suspect’s vehicle went off the road and into a ditch. Officers said Garvey suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to St. Elizabeths Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates Garvey was not a partygoer and that he came to the home with the intent of committing violence against residents. According to court records, Garvey has previously been convicted in Kentucky of felony first-degree rape and second-degree sodomy dating back to 2021. A police press conference confirmed Garvey’s criminal history. Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery appeared emotional throughout Saturday’s press conference. “We’ve never dealt with a case like this before. I know it happens all around the country, but this is the first time we’ve had a shooting in Florence,” he told media. Mallery also said officers had come to the home earlier in the evening for a noise complaint that was unrelated to the shooting. Florence Police detectives and crime scene units responded to the scene to investigate. Police said the suspect acted alone and there is no threat to the public at this time.
