It’s been a good week so far in recruiting for Penn State, despite some tough losses in the battle for top targets for 2025 and beyond.
But that won’t stop James Franklin and his staff from going after others they want to bring into their program.
The momentum this week began with four-star cornerback Jameel Joseph from New Jersey verbally committing to the Nittany Lions, followed by four-star defensive back Antonio Branch as the second commit this week.
The Florida native is listed as a cornerback his junior year, but is already 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds heading into his senior season and is likely to be a safety at the next level.
This is a big win for Penn State.
He took his official visit to Happy Valley the weekend of May 31, which impressed him enough that he decided this was the right program for him.
Branch spoke about the relationships he’s built with the coaching staff along the way, which he said are even more evident now that he’s on campus.
The four-star recruit narrowed his list to three schools and decided to cancel his official visit to Florida, leaving Penn State in a contest between Louisville and Nebraska.
Branch is scheduled to take an official visit to Louisville this weekend, but it’s unclear if that has been canceled following his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions.
This is another win for Franklin and his Florida staff in attracting top talent from the state. And the benefits new defensive coordinator Tom Allen brings to the state will only allow them to continue to recruit top talent from the area.
Branch’s addition brings Penn State’s Class of 2025 roster to 16 players.
