Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has not ruled out talks with Pakistan over arms smuggling. In an interview with London-based Independent Television, Gandhi said some of the weapons were coming from the Pakistani border but “we don’t know who is involved.”
Normalcy in Punjab
As the situation in Punjab returned to normalcy, the provincial government lifted the ban on vehicular movement in all but two districts on June 21. All gurdwaras, except the Golden Temple and Gurdwara Muktsar, were opened for all devotees.

Raising judges’ pensions
The government has decided to provide enhanced pensions to all Supreme Court and High Court judges who retired before October 1, 1974, along with payment of arrears to their legal heirs and survivor pensions to the widows of retired judges. The Supreme Court Judges Act, 1958 and the High Court Judges Act, 1954 were amended in 1976 to provide increased pensions to judges who retired after October 1, 1974.
Orissa Bridge Dispute
A dispute over the construction of a bridge over the river has led to a clash between Odisha Chief Minister JB Patnaik and his wife Jayanti Patnaik, the Lok Sabha MP from Cuttack. The dispute began when Jayanti Patnaik wanted the proposed bridge to be built in her constituency, Salepore, while Minister of State for Public Works Basant Biswal wanted the bridge to be built at Patkura in Cuttack district.
