After months of gloomy April rains, hot days and cold nights, summer is finally here. The uncertainty of what to wear due to the ever-changing weather has given way to the confidence of wearing tank tops and shorts all day long. This year’s trends are cycling faster and faster, and we’re trying to experiment to see what will fit into our wardrobe.
Getting dressed is a sacred act, part of the daily ritual of getting ready for the day. Adding new clothes to keep up with the trends isn’t always necessary, but if you want to find an outfit that will fit into your wardrobe for the long term, here are some pieces worth trying and some tips on how to wear them. From high cutout tops to longline suit shorts, here are some interesting trends to look out for this summer.
As you shop around for trendy clothes like these, think carefully about whether they match your current style, and if you’re looking to completely change your style, try creating a mood board of the styles that suit you best.

Cut-out tops
While little tops are already on your shopping list for casual outings this summer, cutout tops are an elegant alternative. Try wearing a baby t-shirt or tank top with a round cutout on the side. Or try this tank top with a star-shaped cutout from ABL Studio. The detailed cutouts add an interesting element to the look instead of making the top just a staple piece. Try styling a tank top or baby t-shirt the same way you would with trousers, shorts, or loose jeans. To dress it up, add a light jean jacket or blazer, or pair the cutout top with a denim skirt or under a vest if it has a cutout at the chest.

Thong sandals
Thong sandals have been around for a long time, but kitten heels add a touch of class and femininity to any outfit. Even with plain straight-leg jeans, thong sandals can take your outfit from casual to dressy. Try wearing a loose summer long or short dress with a lightweight sweater wrapped around your shoulders and a baseball cap. Or, try the trend with a linen outfit in a bold color or print.

Stud Accessories
Studs are back, from bags to belts to shoes. Remember when studs were on shorts? Don’t worry, that’s not happening yet. We’re talking about a sophisticated departure from that trend. Think bags with studs on the straps or flats decorated with silver studs, like these from Tory Burch. I bought a pair on sale last year! Adding any of these to a basic look will make it dressier. I wear flats with shorts and a blazer over a t-shirt to work events. If you want to ease into this trend, try pairing a studded black belt with black pants or a black skirt with a ribbed tank top.

Chunky sneakers
Chunky sneakers are back, and Lewis Hamilton’s unreleased Dior sneakers are proof. Sneakers have long been worn with suits and dresses, but adding an edgy touch with chunky sneakers takes them to the next level. The 2010s definitely had their fair share of this trend, but this time around, try pairing them with a suit set and blazer, or a linen set in a similar hue to your sneakers for a chic look. You could also go all out street style and pair them with cargo pants or a cargo skirt, a graphic tee and a fitted cap.

Longline suit shorts
Last year, shorts were the “it” item of summer, but this year, longline suit shorts are vying for the spot. The silhouette is exactly the same shape as shorts, except they are made of linen, light wool, or cotton. The luxurious fabric dresses up your look while keeping you comfortable in the heat. If you haven’t been a fan of shorts before, this might be your transition to a longline short silhouette. These shorts from Frankie Shop are a quality option to buy. Try the trend with a baby t-shirt and textured loafers or fashion sneakers. Or you can pair your suit with a matching blazer. On very hot days, pair them with a tank top, a crisp white button-down, and a leather braided bag to add a model-like off-duty energy to your outfit.
