More than 550,000 portable chargers sold at Costco are being recalled over concerns about burns and fires, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.
Three models of the myCharge POWER HUB All-in-One 10,000mAh Portable Charger were included in the recall with various date codes. The recall was initiated following observations of the chargers overheating while charging.
The commission said it received 120 reports of overheating portable chargers, including two that caused house fires and approximately $165,000 in reported property damage.
“Costco received 115 returns of portable chargers indicating they melted, expanded, smoked, caught fire, burned, exploded or sparked,” the commission said.
No burns have been reported.

Customers are advised to stop using the chargers and contact myCharge to obtain a replacement on the company’s recall page.
The commission warned consumers, “Do not throw recalled batteries in the trash” and “Do not dispose of recalled batteries in used battery recycling bins at retail stores or hardware stores.”
“These potentially hazardous batteries must be handled differently than other batteries,” the commission said, adding that “damaged/defective/recalled lithium batteries must be disposed of in accordance with procedures established by municipal recycling centers and in accordance with local and state ordinances.”
