Without a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, there will be no peace in the world: Pakistan Prime Minister

Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan’s prime minister said the world cannot bear witness to peace unless the Israeli regime permanently halts its military aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has sparked a genocidal war.

“If there is no lasting peace in Gaza, there will be no peace in the world,” Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday. The Pakistani prime minister was speaking at a special meeting of the World Economic Forum in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

War has been going on in Gaza since October last year.

At least 34,488 people have been killed and 77,643 injured in the brutal military onslaught launched in the wake of Al-Aqsa Storm, a retaliatory operation launched by Gaza resistance forces.

Sharif said conflicts around the world, including the escalating conflict in Gaza, are contributing significantly to global inflation.

He said inflation was “hitting developing countries hard.”

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan issued a joint statement calling on the international community to put pressure on Israel to end its aggression.

The statement was issued after Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman hosted Sharif in the holy city of Mecca on April 7.

Both parties urge Israel to “cease Israeli military operations in Gaza, reduce the humanitarian impact, cease hostilities, abide by international law, and ensure that humanitarian aid to Gaza remains unimpeded.” He called for international efforts to “apply pressure.”

The two leaders also called for the “establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” with its capital in eastern al-Quds in the West Bank, occupied by Tel Aviv.
