DANVERS — Essex Technological University will feature presentations of student independent research on historical genocide and ongoing underrepresented human rights issues Friday as part of the capstone project of the school’s popular Genocide Studies elective. This public exhibition will focus on the Armenian genocide, the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in October 2023, the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The advanced genocide studies course, which began in 2015, examines how the term genocide has been defined throughout history, the conditions under which genocide has occurred, and which genocides are emphasized and which are ignored. We will explore topics centered on genocide, such as how genocide has been carried out and how it has been carried out. can be prevented.
The Marblehead League of Women Voters will be assisting with the evening’s event in memory of longtime member and former league president Joan Meyer, who passed away in 2022.
The exhibit will be open to the public on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. in the school’s Alumni Gymnasium, 565 Maple Street. Visitors can tour exhibits and interact with student researchers.
