RALEIGH, N.C. (April 30, 2024) – Wake Tech Career and Technical Education students excelled at the 2024 SkillsUSA North Carolina Leadership & Skills Conference in Greensboro, taking home four top awards. Won 25 amazing awards including;

Two students, Schwar Butts (advertising design) and Hasten Goins (architectural drafting), have qualified to compete in the national SkillsUSA competition to be held June 24-28 in Atlanta, Georgia. This is the third consecutive year that Wake Tech students have qualified for the national competition.

A total of 73 Wake Tech students from Architectural Engineering and Skilled Technology, Business and Professional Services Technology, Information Technology, Transportation Technology, and Workforce Continuing Education competed in a variety of categories. Several new competitions were held, including Advertising Design, Adobe Visual Design, Weld Fabrication, Weld Sculpture, Electrical Wiring, and HVAC.

Wake Tech also received the #1 award in the category of Largest Individual Membership Growth at the Post-Secondary (College Level).

Seventy-five high school students from the Vernon Malone College and Career Academy (VMCCA), a collaborative and innovative high school partnership between Wake Polytechnic Institute and the Wake County Public School System, also participated and won 34 awards, more than double the number from last year. . Conference of the year. Eight students who participated in four competitions (Entrepreneurship, Creating Interactive Applications and Video Games, Nursing Assistance, and Welding) qualified for the national competition.
