ATU Robotics Team ends the season in the top 4 in the world

ATU Robotics Team at the 2024 VEX U World Championship
Members of the Arkansas Tech University robotics team posted a group photo during the 2024 VEX U World Championship in Dallas, Texas.

Arkansas Tech University advanced through the qualifying stage at the 2024 VEX U Robotics World Championship, advancing to the elimination round and finishing the 2023-24 robotics season in the top four of the world rankings.

The World Championships were held from April 28th to 30th at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.

Arkansas Tech won 8-1 in qualifying games and earned the No. 10 seed in the head-to-head elimination tournament. ATU drew with Purdue University as its opponent.

“Purdue has long been a well-known university in the VEX robotics world, so we knew it would be a very tough match,” said Jacob Weidenfeller, ATU School of Engineering faculty member and ATU Robotics Club advisor. Ta. “We had our best match ever, not just this weekend, but in any tournament this season and last season. The autonomous period worked exactly as we wanted it to, and the driver period was the best driver period we have ever had. It was a great performance.”

In the end, Purdue won the match and was crowned world champion.

“Right after the game against Purdue, when we found out we lost the game, we immediately had smiles and laughter because there was nothing to be upset about,” Weidenfeller said. “We will continue to improve and prove what ATU students are capable of.”

Arkansas Tech University finished the 2023-24 season in the top four in the VEX U Robotics World Rankings based on overall academic year performance, placing sixth in the world in the VEX U Skills Competition.

ATU will compete in the 2024 VEX U World Championship with Conway’s Preston Diehl, Hope’s Colin Easterling, Hope’s Juan Leon, Hope’s Hunter Mathis, East End’s Ryan Nantarancy and Bryant’s Chris Osborne. , Conway’s Everett Ortiz, and Braden Pierce were represented. Bryant.

Membership in the ATU Robotics Club is open to all students, regardless of major.
