Pakistan’s Rashid Latif says he will take four spinners instead of being scorned at Rinku Singh T20 World Cup…

New Delhi: Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif on Friday shared his thoughts on India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, which starts next month in the Americas.

Latif said the Indian team management could have considered including Rinku Singh in the squad by cutting back on spinners.

Rinku Singh’s exclusion from India’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup has been hotly debated among pundits and fans. Many are questioning this decision considering Rinku’s recent impressive performances.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently clarified the link’s disdain and said his omission does not reflect any shortcomings on the player’s part.

Expanding

“Rinku Singh did nothing wrong, so it’s not his fault,” Agarkar said.

The explosive batsman was brilliant in IPL 2023 and then went on to put up some impressive performances for the Indian cricket team in T20Is. However, he was included in the reserve squad and Shivam Dube was awarded for his performance in the ongoing IPL 2024.

India has selected four spinners – Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal – for the mega sporting spectacle to be held in the US and Caribbean starting June 1. India’s pitches are likely to be more suited to pace bowling, which is why many experts feel his four spinners are too much.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper and batsman Latif told IANS in an interview that Rinku has the experience of finishing matches and can help India in the US and West Indies.

“It is very difficult for any team to pick their squad for the World Cup. No matter how good a team you pick, there will always be two or three players left out. Rinku Singh should not have been left out. Against KKR He quickly became famous and later made his national team debut.

“In my opinion, Rinku Singh has the experience of finishing, which we have already seen. He has shown it more than once. Rinku Singh could have been in the team if it looked like there were. Instead of getting four spinners, Rinku Singh would have been selected,” Rashid Latif told IANS.

Indian national team for 2024 T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma (C), Hardik Pandya (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kullu Deep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah.

reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khalil Ahmed, Avesh Khan
