Sanjay Leela Bhansali talks about Pakistani fans’ reaction to Heera Mandi
Talking about the new series in an interview, Bhansali said, “The love I received from Pakistan was so much. People were anxiously waiting for it and waiting for this to be told. It’s a work that somehow brings us all together.” India was one and undivided. I still feel that as much as they are ours, both countries are showing a lot of love for the show that was ultimately produced. ”I still feel that we are all one and that we are all connected in different ways. There’s a lot of love for people on both sides, apart from a few who want to cause trouble, but they don’t matter. ”
Director Bhansali, who is considered one of India’s best filmmakers, shared his reaction to the critical feedback from the audience.
“Some of the characters are similar to the people in my work. That’s why they talk about it. A lot of people like it, a lot of people don’t like it. It’s part of the give and take.” With audiences and filmmakers, I don’t mind being loved as long as they give me love, and I don’t mind being criticized if they don’t connect with my work. I don’t care,” he said.
Heera Mandi: Diamond Bazaar Review
An ABP Live review of the series reads: Behind the shiny costumes of elegance and pose, ‘Heera Mandi’ chronicles the trials and tribulations of the Nauch girls. While the sets may remind you of Bhansali’s other works, this series stands out in quite a few ways. This performance-driven series explores women’s agency in the red light district and their contributions to the freedom movement. Unfortunately, the director himself distracts the viewer from the heart of the script, keeping the focus on the doomed lovers Alamzeb, Mallika Khan’s youngest daughter, and Tajdar, the young Nawab. Alamzeb (Sharmin Segal), who lives in a dream-like world far removed from reality, meets a rebellious lawyer, Tajdar (played by Taha Shah Badusha).
