The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing for a drastic change in the schedule of Pakistan Super League (PSL), the country’s premier T20 tournament, from the previous February to May next year. However, this rescheduled period of the PSL is scheduled to clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), posing a major challenge for both the PCB and franchise owners. However, given the constraints due to the packed cricket schedule, officials reportedly unanimously agreed that adjustments to the PSL schedule were inevitable. Pakistan’s national team will be in action from August to January in preparation for the Champions Trophy.
In addition to the revised timeline, the meeting also discussed in detail plans for the next edition of the PSL, with matches scheduled to be held in Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. Each franchise is expected to play at least five matches at their home venue, and the PCB is actively exploring the possibility of incorporating additional venues.
The report further said that the 9th edition of PSL had an estimated 350 million people watching the matches and 1.5 billion viewers on digital platforms.
PSL 9 also saw a 45 percent increase in media rights, an increase of 113 percent from the previous cycle. International media rights sales also increased by 41 percent.
