Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Sunday that each player will receive $100,000, or about Rs 28 million, if the Green Shirts win the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The cricket board said Naqvi made the remarks while arriving at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where Babar Azam’s Pakistan team will begin its camp on Saturday.
In a post on social media platform X, the PCB said Naqvi met both players and officials during his visit.
“The PCB chairman stayed with the players for two hours,” the board said, adding that Naqvi also held detailed discussions on the strategy with the players.
According to the PCB, Naqvi announced that each player will be given $100,000 if they win the T20 World Cup. Naqvi also said that the prize money is not important compared to lifting the trophy and expressed his hope that his team will fly the Pakistan flag.
The PCB chief also encouraged players to “play without pressure” and “compete energetically.” “Victory is yours, defeat is mine,” he said.
“Don’t worry about anyone. Only play for Pakistan. Show teamwork on the field. [and] “If it is God’s will, victory will be yours,” he said.
Naqvi further said that all the players are united and expressed hope that fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will perform well in the tournament.
“The country has high expectations of you. You must meet them,” he told the players.
During his visit, the PCB chairman also distributed special shirts to players who achieved milestones. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan was awarded the shirt for completing his 3,000 T20 runs while pacer Naseem Shah was awarded the shirt for taking his 100 T20 wickets. Awarded.
Naqvi also hosted a luncheon for players and officials at a local hotel later that day, the PCB said.
Pakistan are scheduled to embark on a T20 tour to Ireland and England later this month. The twin tours will prepare the Green Shirts for the all-important T20 World Cup to be held in the United States and West Indies from June 1-29.
On Saturday, all-rounder Imad Wasim said that the main focus is to deal with the pressure inside the ground while stressing that winning the T20 World Cup is the team’s main objective.
“[Fast bowler] Mohammad Amir and I returned to international cricket [by coming out of retirement] We have one clear goal and that is to win the T20 World Cup,” Imad told reporters at Gaddafi Stadium.
“Getting to the final, or even the semi-finals, is definitely a huge achievement. But unfortunately, the losing finalist team is not remembered, only the champion side.
“I strongly believe that if we work well together and reach our full potential, no team can beat us,” he said.
