LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP on Sunday filed nomination papers after the son of the party’s Fatehpur Sikri MLA Babulal Chaudhary filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate from the Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha seat. He issued a show cause notice to the party.
The saffron party has fielded sitting MP Rajkumar Chahal from the constituency. However, Babulal Chaudhary’s son Rameshwar Chaudhary is also contesting from the seat as an independent candidate.
said Govind Narayan Shukla, state general secretary of the BJP. P.T.I. The state’s unit chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary has issued a show-cause notice to Babulal Chaudhary, seeking a response by 5 pm on Monday, he said.
In his letter, Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary said he had received complaints about Babulal Chaudhary’s campaign for his son to contest as an independent candidate against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s endorsed candidate.
“A show cause notice has been issued as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against you,” the letter said.
Shukla said the BJP had issued a notice to Rameshwar Chaudhary on May 2 and expelled him from the party.
Babulal Chaudhary was elected to Parliament from Fatehpur Sikri in 2014 by the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the 2019 elections, the party dropped him and fielded Chahal, who defeated Raj Babbar of the Congress.
Babulal Chaudhary contested the 2022 assembly elections on a BJP ticket and became an MLA.
Ramnath Shikarwal of the Congress is running from Fatehpur Sikri as an India Bloc candidate.
Agra district constituencies will go to polls on Tuesday.
