West Indies, co-hosts of the T20 World Cup, have received terrorist threats against the tournament from northern Pakistan, according to a report in Cricbuzz. However, Cricket West Indies (CWI) expressed reassurance about all safety measures.

“Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched a campaign to incite violence against sporting events, including a video message from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch ISK Khorasan (IS-K). He highlighted the violence in many countries and called on his supporters to take to the battlefield,” the report said, citing terrorist threats.

West Indies and the United States are joint hosts of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held from June 2 to 29.

But CWI CEO Johnny Graves allayed any concerns about security.

Expanding

“We are working closely with host country and host city authorities and continuously monitoring and assessing the global situation to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate the risks identified at the event. ,” Graves told Cricbuzz.

“We would like to assure all parties that the safety and security of everyone participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our top priority and we have comprehensive and robust security plans in place. I think so,” Graves added.

Similar reports have appeared in Caribbean media.

The Daily Express quoted Trinidad Prime Minister Keith Rowley on the plans security agencies have in place to deal with such threats to the match.

The Cricbuzz report also notes that “regional security officials in Barbados are monitoring potential threats to the ICC event” and that “information regarding potential threats to the World Cup has been leaked through the pro-Islamic State (Daesh) media. It also mentions that it was obtained through the group Nasir. Pakistan’. “

Among the Caribbean islands, Barbados, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago are scheduled to host T20 World Cup matches.
