TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Barron Trump’s time in the political spotlight will soon arrive.

Former President Donald Trump’s youngest son, who will graduate from high school next week, has largely stayed out of the political spotlight, but on Wednesday night he was chosen by the Florida Republican Party as one of the state’s Republican delegates. national convention, according to a list of delegates obtained by NBC News.

“We have a great delegation of grassroots leaders, elected officials and even Mr. Trump’s family,” said Evan Power, chairman of the Florida Republican Party. “Florida continues to have a great convention team, but more importantly, we are preparing to beat Florida and get a big win.”

His position as a delegate will be his most high-profile political role to date.

In a Trump family full of politically involved children, Barron has kept more of a private life than his older brothers Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. Both men, along with Trump’s daughter, will also serve as national RNC delegates in Florida. , Tiffany.

Barron, 18, was thrust into political headlines last month at the start of Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial in connection with hush-money payments to adult film stars ahead of the 2016 election.

Trump’s lawyers argued, and Judge Juan Machan agreed, that he should be allowed to take a leave of absence to attend Barron’s May 17 high school graduation.

A Trump campaign spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Recommendation

The Trump family will have significant influence over Florida’s RNC delegation.

Eric Trump is the delegation’s chairman and participated in a call with Florida Republican Party Chairman Power and party leaders Wednesday night.

Trump has won the state twice, including by more than 3 percentage points during his failed reelection bid in 2020, making him the official candidate in the 2024 presidential election. The state party has been gaining support for most of the candidates.

The party is in a difficult position this cycle, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also running for the Republican presidential nomination, but even though local governors are joining the race, Florida State party officials have indicated they will support Trump.

In September, party leaders voted to remove the Pledge of Allegiance requirement that required Republican presidential candidates to support the eventual Republican nominee in order to participate in the state’s March 19 primary ballot. The proposal was supported by President Trump, but was openly opposed by the DeSantis campaign.

In addition to Trump’s family members, the Florida Republican Party has confirmed several of the former president’s top allies as at-large delegates to the RNC.

Others include Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancée. Michelle Bouras, Tiffany Trump’s husband. Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is a longtime Trump ally who runs a pro-Trump super PAC. Sergio Go, a longtime advisor to President Trump. Ike Perlmutter, a prominent Trump donor and former Marvel Entertainment chairman. and a series of state-level Republican politicians who took the risk of supporting Mr. Trump over Mr. DeSantis.

Matt Dixon is a senior national affairs reporter for NBC News based in Florida.
