2024 National Assembly Election Live: Leaders of the opposition India Bloc today raised their demands for absolute voter turnout figures for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls to be released promptly after each phase, PTI reported, citing sources. A meeting is scheduled to be held with the Election Commission. The party will also take issue with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s alleged use of “religious symbols” in its election campaign.

The Indian bloc’s leaders will meet the entire Election Commission of India on Thursday afternoon to submit a memorandum and also discuss the issue with the poll panel, sources said.

Among the opposition’s claims, the polling agency maintained that data on the “actual number of votes” per polling station would be provided to candidates immediately after voting ends.

In a statement last week, the EC also said it attaches “substantial importance” to the timely release of turnout figures after each stage of voting, adding that data on the actual number of votes cast not just by constituency but by polling station. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday wrote to various opposition leaders on the issue of alleged “inconsistencies” in voting data released by the Election Commission (EC).

In his letter, Kharge urged Indian bloc leaders to speak out “collectively, unitedly and clearly” on the issue.

The EC on April 30 officially announced the voting percentage for the first two phases of the Lok Sabha polls. According to EC statistics, 66.14 per cent turnout was recorded in the first phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls and 66.71 per cent in the second phase. .

In the third phase of voting held on Tuesday, the EC’s turnout app on Wednesday showed 65.55 per cent voting.

Monday’s press release by the EC also included the total number of electors and turnout figures for each seat.

But the opposition also wants details on how many voters exercised their right to vote.

Various opposition parties also approached the poll commission over speeches made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party during the polls, alleging violations of the model code of conduct.

Based on complaints from opposition parties and the Bharatiya Janata Party, the poll panel had earlier issued notices to Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda and Congress president Kharge over alleged violations of model code of conduct by leaders of the respective political parties. was.
