Light to moderate rainfall was recorded across the country during the week (May 1 to 7, 2024). The spatial distribution of precipitation is shown in Figure 5. Figure 6 shows the deviation from normal rainfall, with the northern region of Pakistan including Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, KP, and Potohar showing below-normal rainfall. However, coastal areas of Sindh and Baluchistan have received much higher than normal rainfall. More information can be found in the April 2024 Monthly Drought Bulletin.

Figure 7 shows the spatial distribution of average temperature for one week (from May 1 to May 7, 2024). Average temperatures have remained normal to near normal in most parts of the country, except for a few stations such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Peshawar and Balkans. If higher than normal temperatures are recorded. Figure 8 shows the temperature change.

The spatial distribution of normal precipitation for one week (from May 1 to 7, 2024) is shown in Figure 9. Most parts of the country usually receive 0-10 mm of rainfall, while Potohar region, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan receive 0-10 mm of rainfall. Approximately 10 to 30 mm. Typical temperatures during the period are shown in Figure 10, with temperatures ranging from 8 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius.

Forecast period: May 9 to May 14, 2024

  • On May 9, 2024, mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, but it will be very hot in the southern and central regions.

  • Hot, dry weather is expected in most parts of the country on May 10, 2024, with the possibility of dust-raising winds in southern regions. However, rain, thunderstorms and storms are expected in isolated places in northern Balochistan, Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in the evening and night.

  • Rain, thunderstorms and storms are expected at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, North Baltistan, Upper Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Islamabad on May 11, 2024.

  • May 12, 2024 Rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Potohar region and northeastern Punjab. Hot and dry weather is also expected in other parts of the country.

  • On 13 May 2024, mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad.

  • Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country on May 14th. On the other hand, the south is very hot.

Note: According to the forecast, some relief may be expected in southern Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, which were previously affected by mild drought.
