Ireland achieved a five-wicket victory in the first match of the T20 series in Dublin, their first win against Pakistan in 17 years.
A brilliant 77 from opener Andrew Balbirnie saw Ireland reach their winning target of 183-5 with just one ball left.
It was Ireland’s second win against Pakistan and their first since the 2007 World Cup. Pakistan won 182-6 with Babar Azam (57 points) and Saim Ayub (45 points) leading the scorers.
Balbirnie hit two sixes and 10 fours in a 55-pitch knock, receiving valuable support from Harry Tector (36 off 27) and George Dockrell (24 off 12). .
Gareth Delaney (10 not out) and Curtis Campher (15 not out) combined for 167 for 5 for the final partnership against the Irish team, needing 17 off 8 balls and with a leg-bye. He rushed home the winning run.
The two sides will meet again on Sunday and Tuesday at the same Castle Avenue venue in Clontarf.
