With assembly elections and six by-elections due in June, Himachal Pradesh’s ruling Nationalist Congress party has stepped up its attacks on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both parties engaged in direct electoral battles in the hill state.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhbinder Singh on May 10 slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing former chief minister and current opposition leader Jairam of indulging in politics of “regional bias” and “corruption” during the Bharatiya Janata Party government. He blamed Mr. Thakur.

Sukh, who accompanied Congress candidate Satpal Raizada to file nomination papers for Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat, addressed a rally in Hamirpur and accused the former Bharatiya Janata Party government of being involved in “huge corruption”. he accused. “Government sector jobs were not just sold, they were auctioned. Due to rampant corruption in the Hamirpur Subordinate Staff Selection Committee, we had to disband this body after forming the government. ” he said.

He also alleged that the Jai Ram Thakur-led government deliberately ignored development projects due to regional bias against the residents of Hamirpur district.

Raizada, a former MLA from Una Assembly segment, is facing Union Minister Anurag Thakur of the BJP in Hamirpur assembly constituency.

By-elections to six assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh are to be held simultaneously with the Assembly polls on June 1. The by-election was necessitated by the disqualification of six state legislators from the state Legislative Assembly for violating the party whip, leaving six seats vacant. All the six Congress rebels have since joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and are currently contesting the by-election as Bharatiya Janata Party candidates. All of them were elected as Congress MLAs in the 2022 assembly elections.

According to the State Elections Department, on the fourth day of candidate filing, 18 candidates across the state submitted nomination documents for the Assembly and Assembly by-elections.
