On Thursday, just days before Mother’s Day, a Georgia mother was fatally attacked by a dog that attacked her and her children.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Brooks County deputies say multiple minors were attacked by a dog at a residence in the 2000 block of Webster Road in Quitman, Georgia, around 4:45 p.m. ET. They were dispatched after receiving a report.
“When officers arrived, they encountered several aggressive dogs on the property,” the GBI said in a news release. “It turned out that an individual had already transported several minors to a local hospital.”
Courtney Williams, 35, was found dead in her garden.
Williams’ sister-in-law said in a Facebook post that the victim and her three children were attacked by a neighbor’s dog.
Cox said one of Williams’ sons pushed his sister out of harm’s way, causing several lacerations that required staples. The other two children were fine but “shaking and still coping,” Cox wrote on Facebook.
One of the children asked the man for help, and Cox said, “He saved them.”
“The man fought off the dogs and helped get the children into the truck and taken to the hospital,” Cox wrote in another Facebook post.
The GBI said the medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of Williams’ death. It is unclear at this time whether anyone will be charged in connection with her death.
The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.
