Emotional friends gathered to pay their respects and share memories of 17-year-old Marko Niketic, who was killed overnight in the suburb of Glenview.
Police continue to investigate the accident, which left three other people in hospital and the community numb with shock after this horrific tragedy.
“The fact that his life ended yesterday is a shame,” said Marco’s friend Preston Shute. “He’s one of those guys you meet and shines through.”
Preston was one of dozens of classmates and friends who visited the crash site on Monday, many left stunned and devastated by the overnight crash.
They depict teenagers with a variety of interests and ambitions, such as stock trading and venturing into entrepreneurship.
“He was really into day trading,” Preston said. “He was a stock trader and was running a detailing company with a friend of mine, and he was planning to start that in the summer. He had a lot going on.”
Glenview police said a silver Mercedes carrying Marco and several passengers collided with a Ford Mustang. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and came to rest across the road after hitting a wooden fence.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and said three other people remain hospitalized. Officials said the driver of the Mustang is expected to be OK, but his two passengers are in serious condition.
Glenbrook High School is providing counseling and support services to the students, and their friends are trying to process the enormous loss.
“I can’t process too much right now because he’s my best friend, but at the same time I want to share information because I think his life needs to be justified in a way,” Preston said. Told.
