TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – As many people pick up debris from the recent tornado, a store on Railroad Avenue is being forced to close due to the damage left behind.

“This is the end of this business,” said City Dogs Cafe owner Mike Robinson.

The café floor is still covered in water, but this is just one example of the challenges ahead.

Robinson said City Dogs is more than just a business to him.

“You have to make a lot of personal sacrifices to get to this point,” he said. “It’s not just business. It’s very personal.”

For Robinson, the devastation of losing his business was unimaginable.

“It’s like raising a child, you want them to be successful and grow up strong and healthy, but unfortunately sometimes things don’t work out,” he said. “This is a situation that isn’t going to work.”

He said the support has been overwhelming but extremely appreciated. Cleaning out one store also means taking time away from his other business, his Ma’s Diner, which he hopes people will continue to support.

Several volunteers came to help clean up Robinson’s City Dog on Wednesday. Marie Daddario was one of them.

“I feel an emotional attachment to this area,” she said. “I went to these communities and spoke to many of the residents, and I was inspired by the resilience that these communities have.”

City Dogs is located on a portion of Railroad Avenue that is currently closed for construction. Ms Robinson said many in the rail area were suffering and she wanted everyone to help raise money for the community in any way they could.
