PONCH/JAMMU: PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Irtiya Mufti on Thursday said the demarcation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir is “right” in a sense as the Pir Panjal region will not be ignored now. .
Her statement on the demarcation exercise is in contrast to the PDP’s position. The party had rejected Irtiya Mufti as an extension of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Other regional parties also opposed the delimitation of parliamentary and electoral districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The demarcation that was done (in Jammu and Kashmir) was correct in a sense. Pir Panjal region will not be ignored in the future,” said Mehbooba Mufti, a mother and PDP leader in the twin border districts. Irtija Mufti, who is running his election campaign, said: Poonch and Rajouri said. P.T.I. .
The Delimitation Commission has been tasked by the Center to redraw the boundaries of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
In its final report, the three-member committee headed by Justice Ranjana Desai (retired) gave six additional seats to Jammu region and one seat to Kashmir valley. Currently, Jammu has 43 seats in the 90-member House of Representatives and 47 seats in Kashmir.
Irtiya Mufti said Pir Panjal region was very backward and came on the map of Jammu and Kashmir after the government led by former Prime Minister Mufti Mohammad Saeed came to power.
“There were no roads even connecting far-flung rural areas. After the formation of Mufti Mohammad Syed’s government, Mughal roads were built. He laid emphasis on education and established Baba Ghulam Shah University here. It was in those days (during Mufti Saeed’s tenure) that Pir Panjal was put on the map of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
Irthiya Mufti appealed to people to vote for her mother Mehbooba Mufti, who is contesting from Anantnag Rajouri seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
“We request everyone here to connect with us. We want to be a part of Jammu and Kashmir’s development journey,” she said.
“The campaign by Mehbooba Ji conveys a message of positivity, hope and happiness, because after 2019, there is no section of society that has not been exposed to injustice and brutality. Everyone is unhappy.” she added.
In an apparent reference to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Irtiya Mufti said those who try to sow discord among the region’s diverse communities will face repercussions.
“We want all sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir to come together, not divide… to move everyone forward towards development. This is a good message. What are they (the BJP) saying? “But they’re involved in politics,” she said, “and their feelings of hatred towards the vote bank.”
“PDP remains focused on the agenda of peace and well-being and will carry forward its message with confidence,” she said.
Irtiya Mufti held a roadshow in Poonch district to gather support for the mother.
Mehbooba Mufti will be competing against National Conference (NC) leader Mian Altaf and J&K Apni Party candidate Zafar Iqbal Manhas. Voting for Anantnag Rajouri constituency will be held on May 25.
