NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has indicted Mumbai resident Amaan Salim Shaikh as a key player in a conspiracy by Pakistani intelligence agents to honeytrap Indian naval personnel to collect sensitive information on defense installations, it said. An official statement was released on Friday.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Shaikh, a resident of Mumbai, on November 20 last year.

The anti-terrorism agency on Thursday said it has filed an additional chargesheet against Shaikh under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. did.

According to The Nation newspaper, Shaikh was found to have been involved in the activation of SIM cards used by Pakistani intelligence agents involved in the incident, and the Counter-Intelligence Cell, Vijayawada, had filed a complaint against the matter on January 12, 2021. This became clear when a case was filed. Investigative Agency (NIA).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which took over the case on June 5 last year, found during its investigation that Shaikh was working under Pakistani intelligence agent Usman to further an anti-India conspiracy. did.

He also received payments from other alleged Pakistani operatives, including Meer Balaji Khan and Arven, through cryptocurrency channels to carry out tasks assigned to him by Pakistani intelligence agents. said the statement.

Khan and Alven, both Pakistani nationals, are on the run.

On November 6 last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a supplementary chargesheet against Manmohan Surendra Panda and two other accused Alven. Panda had earlier been arrested in a case related to leaking sensitive defense information to operatives of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.
