Hoover – The Spain Park Jaguars have a veteran face who is gaining national attention after a historic season in 2024.
On May 9, senior bowler Luke Eaton was named a candidate for the 2023-24 All-USA Today HSSA Boys Bowler of the Year award, a surprise to many in the state. That’s not the point.
Mr. Eaton feels positive about the attention and enjoys feeling that his efforts are recognized.
“Last year was a great year, but I didn’t get selected to any of them except for Alabama’s All-State First Team,” Eaton said. “It’s great to be known as one of the best bowlers in the country.”
Eaton led Spain Park to the Class 7A state title in boys bowling this season, defeating Thompson in February against Bowlero-Mobile. The win capped off a 20-2 season for the Jaguars.
He won the individual title the day before the team’s victory, earning him a major honor. Eaton came out on top, bowling a total score of 663 over the three-round tournament, outscoring the next closest bowler by 63 points.
He believes the big wins and award nominations are the result of hard work every day, understanding what it takes to be the best in the state at a bowling alley.
“Consistency. It’s all about consistency,” Eaton said. “It makes a big difference when he spends two to three hours a day going to the bowling alley and practicing and working on hitting each shot accurately and then going out and bowling. Masu.”
Eaton has a strong desire to win the award, but he knows that if he becomes Bowler of the Year, it won’t just be for himself, but for the large support system around him. I am.
“It’s going to mean a lot to me,” Eaton said. “I’m doing this for people who aren’t here anymore, but they should be here to see me do this.”
After graduating from Spain Park, Eaton will attend Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina, where he plans to continue his bowling career and earn a degree in sports management.
