Landry McClain (Walmart Oz Development) and Alejandro Che (Hot Tubes Development) compete in the Junior 17-18 USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships in Charleston, West Virginia. They won the criterium title, with both athletes winning in the collective sprint.
Choi held off time trial champions Ashlyn Barry (EF Education-ONTO) and Aeneas Kayden Freire (Kelly Benefit Strategies) to take the junior men’s victory. By the final lap, everyone was together, but it was a tense 60-minute race.
“Oh, it was crazy! Hot Tube vs. EF, there were fireworks everywhere,” Choi said in a USA Cycling media release. “But in the end, all the cards fell where they were supposed to and what was supposed to happen happened. It was perfect.”
The 45-minute junior women’s criterium was a close battle between McClain and Alyssa Sarkisov (DCDevo Racing Academy), with DCDevo Racing Academy attacking on multiple occasions.
“It feels great to win,” McClain said. “Honestly, I’m really happy to be here and I’m 100 percent grateful to my parents for their support and I’m really glad they’re here with me.” . The race was a lot of fun. It was fast and technical, with the idea that you have to think about where everyone is. It was so much fun! ”
Third place went to Brigitte Ciambotti (Twenty24 Aevolo).
The race was held on a one-mile, six-corner circuit and was held before the U23 Men’s Criterium, and was won by Gavin Frady (Aevolo Cycling). The Elite/U23 Women’s Criterium and Elite Men’s Criterium will be held at the same downtown circuit on Friday nights.
