Pakistan and India have warned their nationals studying in Kyrgyzstan to stay indoors after an attack on international students in the capital Bishkek.

The Pakistan embassy announced that “mob violence against foreign students in Bishkek” broke out on Friday, when locals attacked several hostels housing Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi students.

The embassy said only minor injuries were reported, despite receiving unconfirmed information online that several Pakistani students had died after being sexually assaulted.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he had ordered the ambassador to provide assistance.

“I am deeply concerned about the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I have instructed the Pakistani Ambassador to provide all necessary assistance and assistance. My office is also in touch with the embassy. “We are constantly monitoring the situation,” he said in a post on X. , formerly known as Twitter.

Indian embassy in Kyrgyzstan warns Indian students to ‘stay indoors’

India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar called on students to contact their embassies.

“We are monitoring the welfare of Indian students in Bishkek. The situation is reportedly calm now. We strongly advise students to maintain regular contact with the embassy,” he told X. wrote.

No injuries were reported as a result of the violence, but many Indian students live in the medical student accommodation where the violence allegedly occurred.

According to Indian media, Bishkek is home to an estimated 9,500 international students.

Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the “incident” had subsided. “There were no serious injuries,” the statement said, adding that about 15 people were seeking treatment.

According to Kyrgyz media, violence erupted on May 13 after a video showing a fight between a Kyrgyz student and an Egyptian medical student was widely shared online.

Unverified footage showed a group of men attacking students.
