I consider myself quite an adventurous person.
So when I was given the challenge of trying strange food combinations, I couldn’t say no.
For context, there is an ongoing trend of people filming themselves pouring ketchup on Kit Kats.
It went viral so quickly that KitKat itself shared an Instagram reel of itself doing a taste test on May 8th.

Reviews were pretty mixed, with some people really liking this strange combination and others saying it made them want to throw up.
Taste is subjective so I wanted to know if I would enjoy it.
It started with ketchup
Thanks to the fast food chain I frequent, I had enough ketchup in the fridge to try this experiment.
As expected, the chocolate-colored Kit Kat with bright red ketchup on top wasn’t very appetizing.
But surprisingly, it wasn’t that bad.
The ketchup was sweet and slightly sour, and strangely went well with the chocolate.
I think it’s similar to orange chocolate, but sweeter.
Overall, I honestly wouldn’t mind eating it again. But I’m not going to actively procure ketchup just to eat it with my KitKat.
And I became even more adventurous
After trying the ketchup in KitKat (and loving it), a colleague suggested I try some other condiments.
Someone mentioned old ganma chili peppers and I wondered why not.
The sauce I had at home also contained peanuts, which made the tasting even more thrilling.
Then again, seeing a large amount of Lao Gang Ma chili peppers on top of a Kit Kat wasn’t the most appealing sight.
To be honest, I was a little scared because the sauce was oily.
But to my surprise, I also enjoyed it.
Have you heard of chili chocolate? This tasted a little similar.
The simple nutty flavor was also nice.
My only complaint is the oil, but other than that, this was something I wouldn’t mind consuming again.
I only had room for one KitKat, so I added Kewpie mayonnaise as well.
I’m embarrassed to say that I also really liked this combination.
Of the three, the mayonnaise definitely looked the most delicious.
And it was delicious too.
The sweet, creamy and smooth sauce pairs well with chocolate.
I think it would also work as a real dessert.
At this point I’m wondering if there’s something wrong with me or if these weird fusion foods actually taste good.
There’s only one way to know. You’ll have to do a taste test yourself.
