The University of Texas will not depart for the Southeastern Conference without playing at least one more game against Texas Tech.
The Texas Tech baseball team will face Texas State in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. This is the final match of the four first-round matches. Tech (31-24) is the 10th seed and Texas (35-20) is the third seed.
Texas won two of three games against Tech in the first weekend of Big 12 play.
Saturday was the final day of the Big 12 regular season schedule.
Texas defeated Kansas in three straight games, but Oklahoma State won a doubleheader in Houston to clinch the No. 2 seed. Oklahoma State played two fewer games than Texas and had two of its final four regular season conference games rained out, but finished with a higher conference winning percentage than the Longhorns.
Top-seeded conference champion Oklahoma State (34-18) and second-seeded Oklahoma State (37-16) have byes in the 10-team field and don’t have to play until Wednesday.
Tuesday’s other first-round games include No. 6 seed Kansas State (31-22) vs. No. 7 Kansas State (29-21) and No. 4 seed West Virginia (33-20) at 9 a.m. ) vs. No. 9 seed TCU. Fifth-seeded Cincinnati (31-19) will play at 12:30 p.m. and eighth-seeded Central Florida (33-18) at 4 p.m.

If Tech wins against Texas, the Red Raiders will play Oklahoma State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. If Tech loses to Texas, the Red Raiders will play the loser of Cincinnati vs. UCF on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Tech lost 21-5 to Arizona State on Thursday night, ending the regular season with three nonconference games in Phoenix. On Friday, the Red Raiders won 13-12 at Nevada-Las Vegas and lost to Arizona State, 17-11.
Due to a short turnaround before the start of the Big 12 tournament, Tech starting pitchers Kyle Robinson and Ryan Free pitched only one and two innings, respectively, in Phoenix.
High-leverage relief pitcher Trendan Parrish, out since April 1 due to injury, returned and pitched 1 1/3 innings in Friday’s game against Arizona State. The junior right-hander retired all four batters he faced.
