Voting in 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra, including six in Mumbai, will be held on Monday as part of the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
The 13 constituencies scheduled to go to polls are Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Kalyan, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Thane, North Mumbai, North West Mumbai, North East Mumbai, North Central Mumbai, South Central Mumbai and South Mumbai.
This is also the final voting process in the state, which has been conducted in five stages since April 19. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4th.
In view of the voting process, some institutions and services will also be closed.
Educational institutions and banks closed
All schools, universities and banks will remain closed in parliamentary constituencies where voting will take place on Monday. Banks will also be closed on May 20th.
Bars and liquor stores remain closed
Liquor shops will close in key constituencies of Maharashtra such as Mumbai, Palghar, Kalyan and Thane.
The Election Commission of India has also directed to observe dry days in and around areas where voting will be held to ensure a fair and peaceful voting environment.
Bars and wine shops in Mumbai will reopen from 5pm on May 20th. Apart from Monday, June 4 will continue to be a quiet day in Mumbai as votes are counted to announce the election results.
BSE, NSE to remain closed
India’s benchmark markets BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty will remain closed on Monday, May 20 due to the Sabah general election. According to the BSE website, the equities, equity derivatives, SLB and currency sectors will remain closed on Monday.

This May 20 stock market holiday is in line with Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, which recognizes the importance of public participation in the electoral process.
