2024 Lok Sabha elections: Voter turnout in the 5th phase updated to 60%, slightly lower than 2019

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday said it recorded around 60.48 per cent voter turnout in the 49 constituencies across six states and two union territories that voted in the fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. .

This turnout is slightly lower than the 61.82 percent turnout recorded by these 49 seats in the 2019 parliamentary elections. The latest final turnout is likely to rise, and the gap will narrow further.

On Monday, the fifth phase will include Uttar Pradesh (14), Maharashtra (13), West Bengal (7), Bihar (5), Odisha (5), Jharkhand (3) and Jammu. Voting was held for one seat each in the Union Territories of Kashmir and Union Territories of Ladakh.

Voter turnout in West Bengal was recorded at 76 per cent, the highest among the states and UTs that voted on Monday. According to the poll panel, of the states that voted on Monday, Bihar had 55%, Jharkhand 63%, Ladakh 70%, Maharashtra 54%, Odisha 69% and Uttar. The state of Pradesh was 58%.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency recorded 59% voter turnout, the highest ever since 1984, when the seat recorded 61% voter turnout.

As of Tuesday morning, the provisional voter turnout for the North Kashmir seat was 58.17%, according to the voter turnout app. In 2019, Baramulla recorded a voter turnout of 34.6 per cent.

The poll panel had earlier announced that the overall voter turnout in the first four phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was 66.95%. Although there was a decline in his first three phases, the turnout in the fourth phase was 69.16%, slightly higher than the turnout recorded in 2019.

In the first phase held on April 19, the final turnout of 66.14 percent was lower than the 2019 turnout of 69.29 percent. Similarly, in the second phase held on April 26, the turnout of 66.71 percent was lower than the 2019 turnout of 69.43 percent. Voter turnout in the third phase, held on May 7, was 65.68%, lower than the 66.58% turnout in 2019.

Voting for 49 seats was held today, and elections for more than three-quarters of the 543 seats (428 seats) in the National Assembly have been completed. His remaining two phases occur on his May 25th and his June 1st. Counting of votes for all his seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections will take place on June 4.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is seeking a record third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to win 400 seats in this election. The ruling coalition is challenging the opposition led by the Indian National Congress under the banner of the Union of India.
