Investigators on Monday revisited the home of a man accused of killing four women whose bodies were found in or near Gilgo Beach, New York, nearly 14 years ago.
New York State Police entered the Massapequa Park residence of Rex Heuerman, the man charged in the deaths of four women. Video from NBC New York showed law enforcement at the official residence.
Robert Macedonio, a lawyer for Heuerman’s estranged wife, Asa Ererup, confirmed that police were at the couple’s former home, adding: “Police are also executing new search warrants. I understand,” he said.
Heuerman, an architect, was arrested in July and charged with the murders of four women whose bodies were found on or near Gilgo Beach on Long Island’s south coast near Massapequa Park: Maureen Brainerd – Barnes, 25 years old; Melissa Barthelemy, 24 years old. Megan Waterman, 22 years old. and Amber Lynn Costello (27).
Police said the women’s bodies were found near Gilgo Beach in December 2010. The body is one of 11 found since 2010, and Heuerman has only been charged in four of the deaths.
Heuerman has been in custody since his arrest last July and has pleaded not guilty to the four charges.
One set was found along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach in December 2010, and 10 more have been found there since then, as well as in Suffolk County and Nassau County, police said on a website dedicated to the Gilgo Beach homicide case. It has also been discovered in other areas of the country.
State Police referred questions Monday to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. A spokeswoman for District Attorney Ray Tierney said the office does not comment on ongoing investigations.
“As District Attorney Tierney has previously stated, the Gilgo Beach Homicide Task Force continues to operate,” the spokesperson said. “We do not comment on ongoing stages of investigation.”
