Joe Biden is not a man of principles or character. He has been a lifelong politician, changing his positions on almost every major issue over the decades. If I had to define Biden’s political worldview, it would simply be this. He follows the Democratic herd and he desperately tries to place himself in the middle. Joe Biden is, in a nutshell, a political windmill, taking note of the prevailing winds within his own party and trying to steer them to his advantage.
This strategy cost Biden his career as well. After all, who would want to follow followers? Biden never achieved any level of national popularity on his own. His presidential campaigns collapsed in embarrassing fashion in 1988 and 2008. His saving grace was actually his bland attitude and rudeness. Thanks to those unique counterintuitive qualities, Barack Obama is the president that made him an unscrupulous person. There, Biden led little actual policy, but he was a successful vice president who happily flew test balloons for the administration and served as a cheerleader for his popular boss. .
Obama himself had little faith in his vice president, so he supported Hillary Clinton, who took over as vice president in 2016 and was widely criticized. After Clinton lost, Biden threw his hat in the ring, citing the extraordinary incompetence of some opponents (Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar), others (Pete Buttigieg and Michael Bloomberg)’s extraordinary dilettanteism and still-deranged racism. Others (Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren)—he won by simply meeting two conditions. First, he was (barely) alive. Secondly, he’s not one of the other lumps.
So Joe Biden became president.
He posed as a political moderate. But there’s a difference between principled moderation and simply swinging like a cork around the vortex of Democratic Party politics. Sometimes moderates need a Sister Soulja moment, a moment to push aside the radicals and embrace the mainstream. Acting as a political windmill does not promote such strength. In fact, it encourages the opposite: to always follow all interests.
So while Joe Biden tried to be everything to everyone, he ended up being nothing to everyone. Biden doesn’t have any rabid fans. Because his position is completely different. He has few even enthusiastic enemies, as most of his enemies don’t believe in it. he I believe whatever he says in that moment. His constantly inscrutable attitude has earned him little loyalty and no notable victories (and no, spending trillions of dollars on the profligate Dawn Dog is not a victory; it’s just (This is the current government approach).
Biden’s inscrutability has caused great damage to the American people. Torn between the Modern Monetary Theory left and fiscal moderate liberals, Biden opted for massive spending and interest rate hikes, cutting babies in half. Caught between the post-American left and traditionally interventionist Wilsonian liberals, Biden is hedging between militaristic support for Ukraine and slow-moving aid. Mr. Biden, who is caught between leftists who hate Israel and liberals who support Israel, has expressed support for Israel in its goal of annihilating Hamas, while also promoting Hamas propaganda and embargoing important weapons. and pressured Israel to keep Hamas alive.
The presidency turns out to be a bad place for windmills. For the past several decades, the closest thing to a windmill president has been Bill Clinton. But even Clinton knew that once a line was drawn, he would pursue it. Mr. Biden is rapidly changing his positions, even from day to day, confusing and confusing the rest of the world.
Americans don’t like it. In fact, they don’t seem to like it so much that polls show that if the election were held today, Joe Biden would be a one-term president, and he would lose to someone he declares to be a threat to democracy. Why? Because there is one personality dimension in which Donald Trump far surpasses Biden: leadership. After all, there is no substitute for leadership.
And Joe Biden was never a leader.
