Agnimitra Paul, BJP

“The people have decided… June is June’s farewell,” declared Agnimitra Paul as he waved to the cheering crowds that had gathered on both sides of the road at Kuikota in Medinipur to watch well-known film icon Mithun Chakraborty’s “Roadshow.” Paul is the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Medinipur Lok Sabha constituency, where his main rival is his friend of two decades, actress-turned-politician June Maria of the Trinamool Congress.

In 2019, Bharatiya Janata Party’s state strongman Dilip Ghosh won from Medinipur. However, the party shifted Ghosh to Asansol this year and fielded Paul, who is currently an MLA from Asansol South, in Medinipur.

Although this caused dissatisfaction among some of the BJP workers in Medinipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally boosted the confidence of Mr. Paul, who was a successful fashion designer before turning to politics. Paul says they are desperate because they know the days of corrupt government are numbered. Some TMC workers raised slogans against the BJP and threw water bottles during the roadshow of Mithun Chakraborty, a supporter of the party.

June Maria, TMC

“June is my favorite actor. I have seen and am still watching her give a great performance as an MLA. I would like to see her in Parliament,” Mamata Banerjee said June Maria, a famous film and television actress and nominee, with her hand held high. Trinamool Congress activities in Medinipur Lok Sabha constituency.

June began her acting career in the mid-1990s and continued her acting career even after joining TMC and winning the 2021 Medinipur Assembly elections.

Maria, who is currently contesting for a parliamentary seat, is not only relying on the TMC government’s welfare scheme but also focusing on development projects she has started in her constituency.

“Tum to doke baji ho, vada karke buru jaate ho (You are a fraud, you don’t keep your promises”), she sings, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party government needs the necessary funds. criticized for not providing it. For the sake of the nation.

Although she recognizes her rival Agnimitra Paul as an old friend, he does not shy away from her during election campaigns. The infighting among her local TMC leaders was a matter of concern to her, which was reflected in the rather low turnout for the roadshow that the TMC supremo conducted in support of her.
