Donald Trump’s campaign has hired Corey Lewandowski, who served as the president’s campaign manager in 2016 and was later kicked out of a pro-Trump super PAC in 2021, as an advisor for July’s Republican National Convention. Two Trump campaign officials told CNN.
Lewandowski’s return to the Trump world comes after Make America Great Again Action reported that a donor had accused Lewandowski of making unwanted sexual advances in 2021. This was done after severing ties with Dofski. Lewandowski subsequently reached an agreement with prosecutors to avoid her misdemeanor charges stemming from her sexual harassment allegations.
National Review first reported on Lewandowski’s new role. Lewandowski declined to comment to CNN.
Lewandowski has already been compensated for his role, including a $20,000 payment from the Republican National Committee last month, according to a recent filing with the Federal Election Commission on Monday.
Lewandowski’s return comes as the Trump campaign seeks to hire a staunch Trump ally to oversee the delegate and convention process.
Paul Manafort, President Trump’s 2016 campaign chairman who was later pardoned, was also hired as an adviser to the convention earlier this year. However, he resigned from his role earlier this month following media scrutiny and questions about his involvement in the planning process, CNN previously reported.
