Hasan Ali’s chances of being selected for Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad appear to be over after he was left out of the squad for four consecutive matches against England to resume county cricket duties with Warwickshire.

“The team management has decided to allow Hasan Ali to continue in county cricket,” the PCB said in a press release on Wednesday, the morning of the first T20I match against England at Leeds. “Hasan was initially selected as injury cover for Haris Rauf.”

Hasan earned a surprise recall to Pakistan’s T20I set-up ahead of the recent series against Ireland, having played only three times in Pakistan’s T20I set-up since the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, in the series decider at Clontarf, he went 0-for-42 with three overs, and has now been dropped from the team.

Pakistan are yet to announce their provisional squad for the T20 World Cup but will have to submit a final list of 15 players to the ICC before Saturday’s deadline.

Warwickshire were caught by surprise by Hasan’s international recall but he is expected to rejoin the squad ahead of Friday’s County Championship game against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford. He will also feature in the T20 Blast, which begins next week, and will remain at the club until the end of July.

Hasan’s compatriot Amar Jamal has also been with Warwickshire, but he took just one wicket in his first two appearances and was dropped from the squad in the recent defeat to Essex. ”[Jamal] They are struggling with their rhythm and haven’t hit the pace that we would like them to have,” Warwickshire coach Mark Robinson said after the defeat to Surrey.

Last week, the club brought in Canterbury seamer Michael Ray on a short-term deal, and he bagged five wickets against Essex. With Chris Rushworth, Liam Nowell, Michael Booth and Craig Miles all absent through injury, Barbados-born Che Simmons also made his first-class debut for Chelmsford, taking 5 from 71. did.
