NEW DELHI: As many as 1,644 candidates out of 8,337 candidates participating in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, according to an analysis of data shared by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a poll rights group. A criminal case has been registered against the person.
Of these candidates, 1,188 are facing serious criminal charges, including charges related to murder, attempted murder, crimes against women, and hate speech.
In phase one, of the 1,618 candidates analysed, 252 had criminal cases and 161 had serious criminal cases.
In the second stage, 1,192 candidates were analyzed, of which 250 were criminally charged and 167 serious criminal cases were filed.
In phase three, out of 1,352 candidates, 244 have criminal cases and 172 have serious criminal cases.
Phase 4 had the highest number of candidates, with 1,710 candidates analyzed, with 360 facing criminal charges and 274 facing serious criminal charges.
The fifth stage includes 695 candidates, of whom 159 have criminal cases and 122 have serious criminal cases.
In Phase 6, of the 866 candidates analyzed, 180 have criminal cases and 141 have serious criminal cases.
In Phase 7, 199 of the 904 candidates have criminal charges against them and 151 have serious criminal cases against them.
Overall, affidavits of 8,337 candidates out of a total of 8,360 candidates were analysed by ADR.
