1. Coquette
Bows and ribbons galore and the ultra-feminine coquette aesthetic have seen the pretty ruffle kick off this year. The epitome of girliness, the trend has taken fashion by storm with waves of pastel pink ruffles. And in the beauty realm, it’s all about dainty makeup looks that dance on the line between saccharine sweetness and flirtatious suggestibility.
Nail salons quickly adopted the coquette trend, styling manicures with bows, pearls, and pink French tips. “The coquette manicure embodies a feminine, girly aesthetic,” explains 10outof10 nail technician Emma Carnell. “Using pastel colors, hand-drawing delicate bows, and adorning nails with various charms creates a pretty, clean look.”

2. Yakuza’s Wife
Another trend that has caught on at the start of 2024, the Mafia Wife movement sits on the opposite end of the beauty spectrum from the Coquette aesthetic. Instead of girly pastels and bows, think rich, sexy glamour. Inspired by women married to real or fictional Mafia figures, the Mafia Wife look is all about embracing bold, messy glamour. “It’s a departure from the demure looks that have dominated beauty trends recently and celebrates unapologetic brazenness,” explains Nicola Moulton, makeup and skincare expert at Beauty Pie. “It’s a bold statement that refuses to conform and encourages individuals to embrace their own inner strength and confidence.”
Both hair and makeup thrive on the mantra of “bigger is better,” extending glamour and drama through scale, texture, vibrancy and defined shape. A little scary, but super sexy. “Think attention-grabbing silver smoky eyes, memorable vampire lips and larger-than-life but slightly out-of-place hair,” Nicola advises, before highlighting how the trend is quickly being adapted by modern MUAs. And a quick tutorial. “Extraordinary mob wives were often funded by their husbands and had plenty of time to spend at the salon. Now, this tutorial features a much quicker and easier way to achieve that ultra-groomed look, ultimately pleasing yourself instead of your husband.”

3. Pearl skin
And when it comes to skin care, the big beauty trend that consistently made an impact was pearl skin. Created with a combination of skin care and makeup products, the goal of this trend is to create pearly, bright and glowing skin. “Pearl skin is brightened using skin care products, moisturized for a glowing base, and accentuated with carefully applied makeup,” says skin care expert, celebrity facialist and author of Crystal Clear Skin Care said Sharon Hilditch MBE, founder of . “Pearl skin can be achieved with the right skin care ingredients for your skin type and complementary makeup products.”
“As we move from spring to summer, dewy, glowing skin is a common trend, as everyone wants to keep their makeup look light and fresh during this time of year,” adds Melanie Barres, global makeup artist at BY TERRY. “I think we’ll see a shift towards more golden, pearly glows that complement tanned skin or bring warmer tones to summer skin looks.”

4. Glass Hair
Along with awards season comes another shiny (literally) new trend: glass hair. With a focus on healthy, shiny hair, this hairstyle is understated yet luxurious and chic, reflecting the quiet luxury movement of 2023. “Glass hair is a trend that refers to shiny, polished, and very glossy hair,” says stylist Valerie Benavides of Hair by Sam McKnight. “It reflects light, shines like a mirror, and looks incredibly shiny. Glass hair is the ultimate luxury hairstyle, rich and luxurious, and quiet luxury in beauty is really making a comeback. Shiny hair looks healthy, but still natural and natural.”

5. Ballet Core
A dance not far from the coquette aesthetic was balletcore. In every sense of the word, this trend takes its cues from the graceful looks and lifestyle of ballet dancers, and while in 2023 it brought fashion trends like dainty flats, delicate tutus, and wrap cardigans, in 2024 it taps into the realm of beauty. We’re taking notes from real ballerinas. It’s the makeup and skincare that’s responsible for achieving a dewy, showcase-ready look, complete with a lit-from-within glow and dusty pink blush, and the hairstyles range from low buns and sleek ponytails to intricate updos tied with pink ribbons, as seen on models at the Christian Siriano SS24 show.

6. Tennis Score
While Strawberry Girl Summer was huge in 2023, Tennis Girl Summer is making a comeback this year, thanks in part to Zendaya and her killer crush. The Challengers As seen in press tour outfits, 2024 trends have made a successful transition from coats to red carpets to street style. And it’s not just about fashion. Tennis score beauty is all about highlighting sports chic on the court and courtside. Think fresh, tanned skin (maybe even a few freckles), no makeup, and hairstyles that range from polished ponytails and sleek braids to low buns and cute bows.

7. Wild West
This isn’t Texas, but Beyoncé could have fooled us. The singer released her latest album earlier this year, sparking a wave of country-inspired trends. Cowboy CarterThey range from rhinestone hats and fringe jackets to big, bouncy hair and cowboy-themed nails.
Salons have seen a resurgence of Western-themed styles, such as Texas hair. “Texas hair means big hair,” says Wes Sharpton, resident stylist at Hair Story. “Texas-native hair is known for its volume and height, and those who adopt this hairstyle have a mantra: ‘The higher the hair, the closer to God.'”
Another hair trend, cowgirl curtains, employs the same principle. “Cowgirl curtains are a longer, fuller version of curtain bangs,” explains Sarah McKenna, founder of London Hair Lab. “Unlike traditional curtain bangs, cowgirl curtain bangs are much heavier. They all have more volume and value natural texture, so they are generally cut thicker than flimsy curtain bangs. Masu.”
The trend has even spread to nail bars, where manicurists have noticed an increase in Western-themed manicures. “Cowboy nails are becoming popular in a variety of ways and colors,” asserts manicurist Holly Wolf of Neville Hair & Beauty. “Western inspiration is huge right now, thanks to stars like Beyoncé, and there’s been a surge in interest in expressing individuality through nail art, with Western motifs offering a unique and distinctive aesthetic…Designs can include the classic black and white cow print, metallic, or coco brown and orange, brown, white, and various shades of blue to represent denim.”

Another TikTok beauty trend that crept into 2024 was the old money aesthetic. The video, tagged with #oldmoneyaesthetic, has racked up 64 million views as of this writing, and he says this is one of his more talked about trends of 2024. It is no exaggeration to say so. We started with fashion, but let’s think about quiet luxury. Saltburn Style – The trend quickly caught on in salons as more people sought variations on the classic bob or blonde hair.
This trend keeps with the old-fashioned, upper-class vibe, with super shiny, voluminous hair cut above the shoulders in a rich blonde hue. “The old-fashioned bob is a hairstyle that exudes sophistication and timeless elegance,” explains hairstylist Jason Crozier of Neville Hair and Beauty. “It has a simple, refined look, and is usually length that grazes or falls just below the jawline. The cut is neat and tidy, with subtle layers to add volume but without any visible texture.”
“Old Money Blonde basically makes you look like you were born with great hair,” adds Zoe Irwin, creative director at John Frieda Salon. “It’s a style of blonde that’s applied more seamlessly, rather than in stripes or chunks, so that the colors blend and mingle into one another. The tones tend to be a mix of warm, beige, and ash tones, and are applied as subtle highlights rather than noticeable stripes. If you have darker hair, these tones should be one or two shades lighter than your base color; going a few shades lighter will make it look less piecey.”
