It’s never fun to have an embarrassing photo go viral, but TikTok’s “Did you delete my photo?” trend sees users poking fun at themselves by sharing silly photos.
Everyone likely has an embarrassing photo somewhere in their camera roll, whether it’s a close-up selfie, a natural photo, or a photo from a time in their life they don’t want to remember.
Some people don’t like to share certain photos of themselves, but TikTok’s new “Did you delete my photo?” trend is causing users to publish goofy photos that would never have been seen otherwise. I am.
The “Did You Delete My Photos” trend, which started in May, sees TikTok users post embarrassing photos of themselves using green screens.
They then animate their photos into silly dance videos, making even more fun of themselves and how stupid their photos are.
TikTok user ‘saritadaisy’ joined the trend with an embarrassing photo of herself. She then continued to make fun of herself by animating photos of herself into dance videos and overlaying them on a green screen.
Italian soccer club Juventus also posted a version of the trend, “Did you delete my photo?”, with the embarrassing photo showing a gentleman giving a thumbs up, indicating that he had deleted the goofy photo, when in fact he hadn’t yet.
In some cases, TikTokers post embarrassing photos of their loved ones. User “brancalice” is a classic example, where they used a photo of their “best friend.”
In the clip, they write a text overlay on a photo of their friend saying, “You deleted my photo, didn’t you?” They then turn the photo into a dance video and write, “Me with that photo,” reiterating that the photo was still up.
TikTok’s “Did you delete my photo?” trend isn’t the only viral fad on the platform. The “aura” trend, in which users subtract or add points to their auras based on how well or poorly they do something, also took off on TikTok in May of this year.
The Aura craze has also seen participants mock themselves, making mistakes and virtually losing hundreds of points for sitting in a wet puddle or missing a basketball shot.
