NEW DELHI: Delhi Election Commission Chairman P. Krishnamurti on Thursday said that over 100,000 voters will be deployed for conducting polls on May 25 and several measures will be taken to protect people from the intense heat. He stated that he is taking the following steps.
Highlighting special efforts to improve voting experience, he said 70 pink polling booths have been set up across Delhi. These polling stations will be run entirely by female voting staff, the statement said. One location will be established in each electoral district.
Besides, 70 model polling stations will be equipped with enhanced facilities. For the first time, every constituency will have a polling station staffed exclusively by Persons with Disabilities (PwD), he added.
“We have meticulously planned and executed all aspects of election management, including human resources, logistics and traffic management,” he said.
He stressed that comprehensive measures have been taken to cope with the expected high temperatures of 44-45 degrees Celsius, based on the instructions of the Election Commission and the India Meteorological Department’s heatwave forecast.
“Preparations are complete. All polling stations will have shaded areas and covered waiting areas will be equipped with coolers and fans to ensure voter comfort. “Based on this, all polling stations are equipped with drinking water, toilets, ramps and wheelchairs to ensure that voters do not experience any inconvenience,” he said.
Moreover, emergency medical staff equipped with basic medical kits will be deployed at all polling stations, he added.
To further increase voter turnout, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has partnered with Rapido Bike Taxi to offer free rides home after voting. Voters will also receive special coupons from Zomato and Swiggy’s online food ordering and delivery platforms, and various restaurants will offer discounts on presenting their voting ink, the statement said.
