‘Our thinking has changed’ – Fakhar Zaman reveals how Pakistan’s approach has changed since Ireland defeat

The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup is set to kick off in a few days with the USA and West Indies hosting the prestigious tournament. Ahead of the mega tournament, Pakistan is preparing well for the tournament as they will play a three-match and four-match series against Ireland and England respectively.

After losing the first match of the series, the Pakistani team defeated Ireland 2-1. They are currently in England and will face England in the second T20I at Edgbaston after the first match in Leeds was cancelled. England had defeated Pakistan in the last World Cup final to win the tournament for the second time.

Ever since Pakistan announced their squad for the World Cup, veteran batsman Fakhar Zaman has opened up about Pakistan’s approach and mindset going into the World Cup.

Fakhar Zaman reveals how Pakistan’s approach has changed since Ireland defeat

Fakhar Zaman told the media that the mentality of the Pakistan team changed after their loss to Ireland in the first match of the series. Zaman explained how the team’s introspection on their performance helped them improve and turn things around in the latter two matches.

We had team meetings after the matches and came away with a strong mindset – every time we had a chance to bat we were ready to score 200-plus runs and we need to go into the World Cup with the same mindset.

Pakistan are often criticised for their relatively slow batting in T20Is, especially as the game is rapidly adapting. IPL 2024 is a prime example of the modern T20 mentality with teams crossing the 200- and 250-run marks quite easily.

Zaman told the media that the team has improved, especially in batting.

Our batting has often been criticised by the media but our bowling is world class. You can see the difference and every time we step onto the pitch our intention is very clear – to score at least 200. After the loss to Ireland, our mindset has changed.
