Modi runs for PM from Varanasi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting the final stretch of the election from Varanasi, facing off against Ajay Rai of the Indian National Congress and Atal Jamal Lari of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
2024 Lok Sabha Elections: Sunday’s highlights
1. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticised the BJP, saying that its aim to topple the TMC government after the Lok Sabha elections will not be successful.
2. Indian National Congress Party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, speaking at a rally in Punjab, questioned why India’s people are not prospering despite claims of rapid economic growth and accused Prime Minister Modi of making false promises to gain power.
3. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party will achieve its target of winning 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and will also perform strongly in Punjab.
4. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi reacted sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘mujra’ remarks, using the metaphor of other dance forms like ‘disco’, ‘bhangra’ and ‘bharatanatyam’.
5. Ashok Parashar Pappi, AAP candidate from Ludhiana, attacked the BJP and PM Modi over the Farm Bills, 2024, pointing out that the bill was withdrawn only after many farmers lost their lives in protests.
